Journalist escapes assassination in Edo
An ace broadcast journalist and crime watch presenter, Mr Festus Alenkhe, has escaped death by whiskers over the weekend as suspected assailants swooped on his resident about 8pm in Benin City, Edo State.
Another source explained that the suspected assailants were actually kidnappers who wanted to seize the journalist for ransom purposes.
Alenkhe, a senior news reporter with Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) Benin was formerly Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Edo State branch.
National Daily gathered that the assailants were heavily armed men and got access into the compound after they had neatly cut the barbed wires on top of the fence in his house.
Luckily, it was learnt, Festus Alenkhe was not at home when the suspected assailants stormed his house.
However, the assailants were confronted and eventually chased away by wild security dogs inside Alenkhe’s compound.
It was learnt that the dog’s persistent barking attracted neighbours who then put calls to other neighbours and the vigilante in the area swooped into action making the criminals to flee.
The matter has been reported at the Police station for investigation.
Festus Alenkhe is the presenter and producer of a popular radio/television Crime program called CRIME WATCH, one of the most popular documentary programme on Edo Broadcasting Service stable.
