National Chairman: Lagos PDP endorses Bode George
Chief Olabode George is strengthening his political forte for the national chairmanship race of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which will be decided this Saturday at the party’s national convention. Accordingly, Bode George was at the weekend endorsed by the Lagos State PDP for the national leadership of the party. Apparently, stakeholders in the state who are expected to be part of the delegates to cast votes in the election of the new party leaders would be delivering their votes for Bode George.
The other candidate in the race, Jimi Agbaje, who was PDP candidate in the 2015 governorship election in the state, is left with no option than to mobilize support from other states of the federation.
National Daily gathered that Bode George was communicated the endorsement by the State Chairman, Moshood Salvador, for the December 9 election of the party leadership at the national convention.
“On behalf of Lagos PDP, we must vote for Chief Bode George come Dec. 9; the South West is the rightful region to have the chairman of our great party. In the last dispensation, Ekiti produced the Vice- Chairman while Osun and Oyo states took the highest office. It is only Lagos that is left and what we want is the chairman. The South-East and the South-South have produced a chairman before that is why it is our turn to have the chairman of PDP,’’ Salvador had declared.
Bode George had at the weekend admitted that a consensus candidate for the South West is no longer possible. He said that the time has become too short to proceed with such negotiation. George acknowledged that continuing with consensus candidate bargaining may exacerbate the crisis in the South West, maintaining that it will be safer to go into the election on Saturday on individual political strength.
Bode George has years of experience that the party can rely on but he may also constitute a phenomenon of conflicts in the leadership of the party.
