Champions league stats between Chelsea and Barcelona that will annoy Lionel Messi
By Boluwatife Ezekiel Olaleye
The Champions League rivalry between reigning Premier League champions Chelsea and Spanish giants Barcelona will return next year.
Chelsea will face their much heralded opponents Barcelona in the last 16 tie of the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League, and as usual, the two games is set to be tough.
The Champions League rivalry between Chelsea and Barcelona actually began back in the year 2000 when the Blues defeated Barcelona 3-1 at Stamford Bridge even though they had met three times before this encounter on April 5, 2000.
Chelsea and Barcelona met for the first time in April 27, 1966 in the Fairs Cup competition, and the Blues were defeated 2-0.
In total, Chelsea and Barcelona have met 15 times with both teams winning 5 games each and drawing 5.
But in their Champions League head-to-head record, Chelsea have played 12 games with Barcelona with the Blues winning 4 games, lost 3 and drew 5 with the Catalan giants.
Interestingly, Lionel Messi has faced Chelsea eight times with 29 shots without scoring a single goal against the Stamford Bridge club.
