Why EFCC arrested Innoson Motors’ boss, Innocent Chukwuma

More facts have been advanced by the rampaging Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the forceful arrest of leading indigenous vehicle manufacturer in the South East, Dr. Innocent Chukwuma, owners of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM), Nnewi, Anambra State.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has come out with a statement on why it arrested owner of INNOSON Motors, Chief Innocent Chukwuma.

Recall that Chief Chukwuma was arrested at his residence in Enugu around 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

The EFCC said it arrested Chukwuma following his refusal to honor its invitation after jumping an administrative bail. Spokesman to the anti-graft agency, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed that the INNOSON boss is being investigated at the moment.

According to the statement, his arrest followed his refusal to honour invitation by the commission having earlier jumped an administrative bail granted him in a case being investigated by capital market and insurance fraud unit of the commission’s office in Lagos.

The statement said Chukwuma rather than honouring invitations by the EFCC, mobilized six truckloads of thugs pretending to be staff of his company to his residence, where they manhandled the EFCC operatives that had gone to effect his arrest.

“It took reinforcement from the Enugu office of the EFCC to effect the arrest of the industrialist who is currently being grilled by a team of investigators,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, spokesperson for INNOSON Motors, Cornel Osigwe has revealed that Mr. Chukwuma was arrest was in connection to the ongoing case he has with GTBank.

Mr. Osigwe said his principal was accused of jumping bail, wondering how someone who was never invited by the EFCC much less being arrested would be accused of fleeing from the law.

According to him, Chief Chukwuma was never invited by the EFCC as being claimed, “We challenge them to come forward with any evidence showing that he jumped bail,” Osigwe said.
