Chopper laden with arms lands in Taraba
A helicopter allegedly loaded with arms and ammunition landed at Jibu, along River Benue, near Ibi, in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba.
Senior Special Assistant to Governor Darius Ishaku on Media and Publicity said the cargo was meant for a group planning an attack on Taraba villages
He said the emplacement method was used in the attacks on Agatu communities in Benue State last year, which led to the killings there.
When it was reported, nothing was done to trace and arrest the owners of the helicopter,” hee told the Punch. “That strategy works for them in Agatu and they are using it again today.”
This may be another planned militia attacks on the people of Taraba in the offing,” Dan-Abu said.
Hon. Josiah Aji, representing Wukari II Constituency in the State House of Assembly, told the newspaper he was also alerted to the development, and has contacted the chairman of Wukari LGA, Hon. Daniel Adi, as security agencies investigation.
Executive Chairman of Wukari LGA Hon. Daniel Adi said he was still gathering intelligence.
Most locals, however, said it was a mere rumour.
The police have also denied it.
