Armed bandits rob woman of N550,000, Police trail gangsters

Suspected gunmen Wednesday morning robbed a middle-aged woman of N550,000 along Iyana-Ipaja Dopemu axis of Lagos. The bandits also got way with others of her valuables.

The National Daily learnt that the woman had just alighted from a car, and was about to cross the Iyana-Ipaja road when, suddenly, three young men, armed with pistols, descended on her and forcefully collected her bag.

It was when she raised the alarm that passers-by and commuters were able to notice that something had happened.

Days before the Wednesday, some three gunmen riding a motorcycle had attacked another lady at the Aluminum Village in the Dopemu area of Lagos. The victim was on her way to lodge cash estimated at over N600,000 in one of the branches of a new-generation bank within the Aluminum market.

The police at Dopemu and Iyana-Ipaja have since been alerted and operatives are on trail of the bandits who are capitalizing on traffic jams to unleash terror on residents.

The state commissioner of police, Fatai Owoseni, had at a recent media briefing urged his operatives to intensify their effort to crack down on the bandits terrorizing the state residents.

He confirmed the arrest of no fewer than 55 suspects across the metropolis within two months. All the suspects are currently facing prosecution in the court.
