The Nasrul-lahi-l-Fathi Society of Nigeria (NASFAT) has backed the anti-corruption crusade of President Mohammadu Buhari’s administration, saying it is in sync with the teachings of Islam.
President of the society, Engr. Mohammed Kamil Bolarinwa said the religion of Islam has zero tolerance for corruption, adding that religion forbids anyone from spending what does not belong to him.
Bolarinwa spoke with newsmen shortly after unveiling the logo and flag for the celebration of 21 years existence of NASFAT at its headquarters in Lagos.
The celebration programme which would last for a month, from March 26 to April 26, 2016 has as its theme, “21 Years of NASFAT in Da’awah: Building Religious Harmony.”
The NASFAT president expressed the support of the society to the war against corruption, saying, “Our religion has zero tolerance for corruption. For us, as NASFAT, as Muslims, Almighty Allah enjoins us that when they put something in our care, we guide it with our lives. We do not make use of people’s property. If you give me money to keep for you, no matter what happens, it is the same unit of the money you gave me that I will deliver to you; that’s a Muslim.”
He stressed that NASFAT had in its 21 years of existence devoted its activities towards promoting the welfare and wellbeing of mankind in all ramifications, by complimenting the efforts of government.
He called on Nigerians to be patient with the present government at the centre as it addresses the myriads of challenges facing the country, urging each and every individual to also look inward to see how they can assist the government.
He cautioned against the continued linking of the activities of terrorists’ groups globally with the religion of Islam, saying that the activities of a few misguided individuals could not be generalised as representing the view of the entire Muslims.
He urged the media to give more publicity to activities of people “who are lovers of peace, who are genuine Muslims and promoting religious harmony”.
He said, “Our religion says the best among you are those with the best morals, the best attitude and that is what we preach.
”If this country is going to be peaceful, if this country is going to be economically buoyant, we must look inward individually at what we can do for ourselves, not sitting down, expecting what our nation can do for us.”
National Missioner of the society, Alhaji Abdullahi Akinbode said the society creates an avenue for religious harmony with other faiths and engenders intra-religious harmony with scholars who are not members of NASFAT. He reiterated that those who kill and maim people in the name of Jihad are ignorant and misguided people.
