Achonu wins Labour Party governorship ticket in Imo
Senator Athan Achonu on Saturday won the governorship ticket of the Labour Party (LP) in Imo State at the party’s primary election in Owerri.
The newly elected governor of Abia State, Alex Otti of the Labour Party (LP), who was the Returning Officer for the Imo LP primary, announced that Achonu had 134 votes to emerge LP governorship candidate in Imo State, defeating Major General Jack Ogunewe who had 121, beside other governorship aspirants.
Otti, noting that the primary election was transparent, declared: “I hereby return Athan Achonu as the LP candidate.”
Achalou would be contending with Governor Hope Uzodimma of the APC, Senator Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 11 governorship election.
Governor Uzodimma is of Imo West, Anyanwu, Imo East, and Achonu, Imo North. Where they were elected in 2015 to represent their senatorial districts in the Senate of the National Assembly.
