Again, armed men invade, burn police station in Imo
Armed men on sun day invaded and set ablaze another police station in Imo State. The gunmen had struck at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Omuma community, Oru East Local Government Area, Imo State.
A gang of armed men had in less than 24 hours of the sun day attack struck at the residence of the President General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Professor George Obiozor, as well as the Divisional Police Headquarters in Umuguma.
The gunmen were said to have invaded the station at about 03.00am on Sunday with Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), shooting sporadically as they made their way in the operation.
The Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Police Command, Mike Abattam, confirming the attack, said that the Command’s tactical teams and DSS operatives on duty immediately intervened to repel the gunmen during the attack. He said that no security operative died in the confrontation.
The security operatives, the PPRO said, confronted the gunmen in a fierce exchange of gunfire, overwhelming four members of the gang on the spot, adding others flee into the bush with many of them sustaining various degrees of bullet wounds.
The police were said to have recovered five undetonated Improvised Explosives Devices and charms from the gunmen.
