Akpabio tasks Tompolo-backed movement with spreading Tinubu’s renewed hope message President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has urged the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement to take President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope message to communities across Nigeria and mobilise support for national renewal. Akpabio gave the charge on Friday during the formal commissioning of the movement’s campaign headquarters in Abuja, where he called on members to promote national unity, bridge political and religious divides, and strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s future. He said the establishment of the headquarters should represent a renewed belief in the Nigerian dream and a determination to overcome the challenges confronting the country. According to him, sustainable national progress goes beyond electoral victories and requires leaders and political organisations to earn the trust of citizens through meaningful engagement and service. “You have recognised a fundamental truth of democracy: elections may be won at the ballot box, but enduring national progress is built in the hearts and homes of the people,” Akpabio said. He described the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration as an expression of confidence that Nigeria’s present economic and social difficulties should not determine the future of coming generations. The Senate President urged members of the movement to approach their door-to-door mobilisation with a commitment to listening to the concerns of ordinary Nigerians rather than merely soliciting political support. He specifically encouraged them to engage with traders, farmers, unemployed graduates and young entrepreneurs, noting that their experiences and concerns should inform the country’s political and development priorities. “When you go from door to door, do not merely seek political support. Carry a message of hope. Listen to the struggles of our people,” he said. Akpabio added that the movement’s headquarters should serve as a centre for public engagement, national solidarity and service, rather than being limited to political mobilisation. He called for an inclusive approach that would accommodate Nigerians irrespective of their ethnic background, religion, geographical location or political affiliation. According to him, national development requires citizens to recognise their shared interests and work together despite their differences. “The difficulties Nigerians are facing must never destroy their determination, and politics must never become greater than patriotism,” he said. Akpabio also reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly to enacting legislation aimed at strengthening the economy, expanding opportunities, protecting democracy and improving the welfare of Nigerians. He urged members of the support group to build bridges across ethnic, religious and political lines, stressing that national renewal would require collective sacrifice and sustained public engagement. “Let us move from door to door, but above all, from heart to heart. Let us build bridges where others see barriers, inspire confidence where others spread despair, and plant the seeds of tomorrow’s prosperity in the soil of today’s sacrifice,” he said. The campaign headquarters was commissioned by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, and several state governors, among other dignitaries.
