American actor goes to space for movie shoot
Hollywood star Tom Cruise is going to space to shoot a movie, and his project development handlers believe he can achieve that first.
The 60-year-old actor is teaming up with The Bourne Identity director Doug Liman on the high-concept movie pitch that involves filming in space.
The idea was pitched in 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic halted plans.
According to the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group (UFEG) which will produce the movie, Cruise will take a rocket trip to the International Space Station.
“I think Tom Cruise is taking us to space, he’s taking the world to space.That’s the plan. We have a great project in development with Tom … Taking a rocket up to the Space Station and shooting,” said UFEG Chairman Donna Langley.
According to Langley, most of the movie would be shot on earth, with “the character [going] up to space to save the day”.
With that, she said, adding Cruise will become the first civilian to do a space walk outside of the space station.
In their worldbuilding, sci-fi screenwriters and fantasy novels author shave envisaged human exploring other planetary bodies in future.
And the world has been witnessing commercial and leisure trips to space stations in recent times, with the world’s richest championing the drive to annex the outer space.
