Amuwo Odofin: Umeadi emerges winner of NDC Reps Primary

Engr. Azubuike Umeadi has emerged victorious in the House of Representatives primary election of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency having defeated the outgoing lawmaker, Hon. George Olawande, popularly known as Omogeye, with an overwhelming number of votes.

The keenly contested primary election, held on Friday, 29th May 2026, witnessed massive turnout of party members across the eleven (11) wards in the constituency, with a resolve to determine the party’s candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The returning officer of the election, while announcing the results, declared Engr. Umeadi as the duly elected candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress after securing a landslide victory against his closest challenger.

Party stakeholders described the outcome of the exercise as a clear reflection of the confidence reposed in Engr. Azubuike Umeadi by members of the party and residents of the constituency, citing his grassroots connection, leadership capacity, accessibility, and developmental vision for Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency.

Speaking shortly after his declaration, Engr. Umeadi who polled 40,000 votes eventually defeated his major contender Goerge Adegeye with well over 30,000 votes, appreciated party members and executives of the NDC for ensuring a peaceful, transparent, and credible primary process.
He pledged to provide purposeful, inclusive, and people-oriented representation if elected into the House of Representatives in 2027.

“This victory belongs to the people of Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency. It is a mandate for genuine representation, development, empowerment, and effective legislative service.
“I remain committed to carrying everyone along irrespective of political affiliations,” he stated.

The victory of Engr. Umeadi comes amid recent political developments within the constituency, including the withdrawal of Hon. George Olawande from active participation in the primary process following controversies surrounding his eligibility and compliance with party requirements.

Political analysts have described the emergence of Engr. Azubuike Umeadi as a major turning point in the political landscape of Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency, with many predicting an intense political contest ahead of the 2027 general elections.
