Aston Villa lead UEFA Europa League team of the season after title triumph
Aston Villa dominated the 2025/26 UEFA Europa League Team of the Season after their emphatic 3-0 victory over SC Freiburg in the final.
UEFA’s Technical Observer Group unveiled the official Team of the Season following the conclusion of the competition, with Aston Villa contributing four players to the elite lineup after ending a 30-year wait for a major trophy.
Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers was named UEFA Europa League Player of the Season after an impressive campaign that saw him score three goals and provide five assists in 15 appearances. The 23-year-old also found the net in the final victory in Istanbul.
Final hero Emiliano Buendía earned a place in the attacking line after scoring and assisting during the decisive win, while Villa captain John McGinn was selected in midfield alongside Rogers.
In goal, Emiliano Martínez secured the goalkeeper spot after another strong European campaign for the Premier League side.
The Team of the Season featured players from six different clubs, with Freiburg and Nottingham Forest each producing two representatives. Players from S.C. Braga, Celta Vigo, and Real Betis also made the final selection.
The defensive lineup included Victor Gómez of Braga, Matthias Ginter of Freiburg, Morato of Nottingham Forest, and Óscar Mingueza of Celta Vigo.
Freiburg midfielder Maximilian Eggestein joined McGinn and Rogers in midfield, while the attacking trio featured Antony of Real Betis, Nottingham Forest striker Igor Jesus, and Buendía.
UEFA’s Technical Observer Group praised the quality and competitiveness of this season’s Europa League campaign, highlighting Aston Villa’s intensity and tactical consistency throughout the tournament.
