Bandits ambush, kill four policemen at checkpoint in Zamfara
The Police Command in Zamfara State on Tuesday acknowledged that bandits on Monday ambushed a team of police officers at a checkpoint on the Bungudu-Gusau Road of the state, but could not confirm if there was nay casualty. However, some locals said that the bandits in exchange of gunfire killed killed four officers.
The bandits were said to have escaped after the attack.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Command, ASP Yazid Abubakar, was said to have admitted the attack.
An eye witness was cited to have narrated: “The bandits ambushed the police along Gusau-Bungudu Road close to Nabature company and killed four. They also rustled many cattle at Tagero village under Furfuri district, one person was shot in the hand in the village.
“The incident happened around 12 am when the policemen mounted a checkpoint along Gusau road. The bandits just ambushed and shot at them; they ran away after killing four policemen.”
