Bandits launch fresh attack in Zamfara, kill Commissioner’s son, others
Bandits on Sunday night renewed invasion of communities in Zamfara State, attacking Tsafe, headquarters of Tsafe Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Command, Muhammed Shehu, was gathered to have confirmed on Monday that the bandits invaded the Tsafe from the eastern part of the community, began shooting sporadically, killing three people, including the son of the Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs in Zamfara, a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Mamman Tsafe.
According to the PPRO: “They entered through the eastern part of the town… the commissioner’s house is close to the end of the town.
“The bandits came from the bush while people were observing prayer and started shooting sporadically.
“When the security operatives heard the gunshots, they went there to engage the bandits, and later it was discovered that three persons who were already outside when the bandits were shooting lost their lives, including the son of the commissioner.”
The Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State, Ayuba Elkanah, was said to have visited the community to condole with the retired DIG and for an on-the-spot assessment.
The bandits had stormed Tsafe at about 8.30pm on Sunday. They were said to be on a reprisal after the killing of a man on Saturday by a local vigilante group known as ‘Yan Sa Kai” in Tsafe.
