Bandits takeover highway for 5 days, kill 6 drivers, burn vehicles in Zamfara
Bandits laid siege and took over a major highway in Zamfara State for five days in protest of the closure of cattle market in Shinkafi Local Government Area.
The highway provides access to three local government areas Shinkafi, Moriki (in Zurmi), and Kaura-Namoda. The bandits in the blockade had killed six drivers, kidnapped several travelers, and burnt many vehicles. The bandits had laid siege on the highway to prevent residents of the area from traveling to other markets in the vicinity since the closure of the cattle market by the government.
However, the intervention of the police and other security operatives dislodged the terrorists and retrieve the highway for public use.
The Zamfara State Police Command had acknowledged the blockade of the highway by the terrorists but disclosed that the Police have cleared that Shinkafi–Moriki–Kaura-Namoda highway, assuring that the road is now safe for use.
