Barcelona vs. Osasuna match postponed following team doctor’s sudden passing
Barcelona’s highly anticipated La Liga clash with Osasuna on Saturday night was abruptly postponed following the sudden passing of the club’s first-team doctor, Carles Minarro Garcia.
The announcement came just minutes before kickoff, leaving fans at Barcelona’s Olympic Stadium in shock.
The match, originally scheduled for 9:00 PM Nigeria time, was called off about 20 minutes before the start. Spectators had already gathered, expecting Hansi Flick’s squad to defend their narrow one-point lead at the top of La Liga against 11th-placed Osasuna.
However, a solemn message displayed on the stadium’s big screen confirmed the postponement.
In an official statement, FC Barcelona expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Dr. Minarro Garcia, highlighting his invaluable contribution to the team.

“FC Barcelona is deeply saddened to announce the passing of first-team doctor Carles Minarro Garcia this evening,” the club stated.
“For this reason, the match between FC Barcelona and CA Osasuna has been postponed to a later date. The FC Barcelona board of directors and all staff extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
Osasuna also paid tribute, offering their sympathies to Barcelona’s players, staff, and supporters.
“Osasuna wishes to convey its deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Carles Minarro Garcia and would like to send a warm hug to all the staff of FC Barcelona, as well as to its fans, at this difficult time. May he rest in peace,” the club said in a statement.
La Liga has yet to announce a rescheduled date for the fixture. The unexpected postponement means Barcelona must wait for another opportunity to extend their lead in the league, while Osasuna will also have to readjust their match preparations.
The entire football community continues to mourn the passing of Dr. Minarro Garcia, whose dedication and service to Barcelona will be remembered for years to come.
