Biggest Premier League transfers to watch before deadline
Premier League clubs are entering the final stretch of the summer transfer window with several high-profile deals still unresolved as teams race to complete their business before the market closes on Tuesday, September 1.
The Premier League has confirmed that the summer window will shut at 11pm BST on Tuesday, leaving clubs with limited time to finalise negotiations, medicals and paperwork.
Among the biggest transfer stories heading into deadline day are the futures of Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez, Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández and Liverpool attacker Cody Gakpo.
Álvarez attracting Arsenal and Barcelona interest
Álvarez remains one of the most prominent names on the market. The Argentina international is attracting interest from both Arsenal and Barcelona, although Atlético Madrid are reportedly reluctant to sell him to the Spanish club.
Reports indicate that Atlético could demand about €150 million (£128 million) for the 26-year-old forward. Arsenal are understood to be among the clubs capable of pursuing the deal, but completing such a major transfer before the deadline would require rapid negotiations.
Fernández linked with Manchester City
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández is another major name whose future is attracting attention.
Manchester City are reportedly monitoring the Argentina international, with reports suggesting Fernández is open to a move. However, Chelsea have maintained that any departure would have to meet their valuation.
The possibility of Fernández leaving has also prompted Chelsea to consider potential midfield replacements, with several players reportedly on the club’s shortlist.
Gakpo could trigger another transfer chain
Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo is also at the centre of late-window speculation, with Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur among the clubs linked with the Netherlands international.
Liverpool are reportedly reluctant to allow Gakpo to leave without securing a replacement, meaning the situation could trigger a chain of transfers involving several clubs before the deadline.
Sarr among other names to watch
Crystal Palace forward Ismaïla Sarr is another player attracting significant deadline-day attention. Liverpool have been linked with the Senegal international, while reports indicate that the player is keen on a move to Anfield.
Palace’s position and Liverpool’s ability to secure attacking reinforcements could determine whether the deal is completed before Tuesday’s deadline.
The final hours of the window could therefore produce a series of interconnected moves, with clubs needing to complete both incoming and outgoing transfers before the 23:00 BST cut-off.
For Premier League supporters, the next 48 hours could determine the final shape of several title contenders and reshape squads across the division.
With Álvarez, Fernández, Gakpo and Sarr among the names still attracting attention, the 2026 summer transfer window is heading towards a potentially dramatic conclusion.
