Bodybuilder dies after a 450-lb barbell crushed his neck at a gym

A 33-year-old bodybuilder in Bali, Justyn Vicky has died after breaking his neck during a July 15 visit to the gym.

Justyn was strength-training at The Paradise Bali gym in Sanur, Indonesia, when a barbell weighing more than 450 lbs. fell on his neck, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

The popular fitness influencer was killed by a barbell while trying to squat-press 210kg with a spotter behind him. “Vicky failed to complete the lift & fell forward, cascading the weight bar off his shoulders and snapping his neck & head forward,” Bali Discovery reported.

“The weight snapped Vicky’s head forward, breaking his neck, & leading to compression of the nerves to his heart and respiratory systems,”.

After the accident, Justyn was rushed to a local hospital with a broken neck. He died shortly after an emergency operation, despite the surgeons’ best efforts to save his life.
