Brito Sporting club signs Nigeria-born football prodigy Yaqub Usman-Malah
In an exciting development for football enthusiasts, Brito Sporting Club of Portugal has officially signed a contract with Yaqub Usman-Malah, a highly-talented young footballer of Nigerian descent.
The unveiling ceremony took place on Saturday, January 4, 2025, marking the beginning of what many expect to be a stellar professional career for the 19-year-old athlete.
Born in Nigeria in 2006, Yaqub Usman-Malah has already demonstrated exceptional promise and talent. Before joining Brito Sporting Club, he honed his skills at Brooke College Football Academy in the United Kingdom.
During his time at the academy, Yaqub recorded an impressive tally of 17 goals in 32 matches, amassing 2,270 minutes of on-field action without a single injury over 116 training days.
Yaqub’s remarkable performance at Brooke College did not go unnoticed. Tomasz Wasylik, the lead coach of the Under-17B team, described him as a standout player and a consummate professional.

“Yaqub is a well-liked individual and a role model for his teammates due to his professionalism and unmatched work rate,” Wasylik remarked.
The coach further highlighted Yaqub’s versatility, describing him as a “tactical player” who is “technically good” and capable of excelling in multiple positions on the field.
In the 2023/2024 season, Yaqub represented Brooke College in National School Cup competitions, where he consistently impressed with his tactical awareness and technical prowess.
Yaqub’s move to Brito Sporting Club signals the next chapter in his burgeoning career. Expectations are high as the club looks forward to tapping into the vast potential identified by Coach Wasylik.
With his combination of skill, stamina, and adaptability, Yaqub is poised to make a significant impact on the Portuguese football scene.
In a statement issued on January 8, 2025, Yaqub’s father, Mr. Usman Malah, expressed confidence in his son’s ability to shine at his new club.
