Children Day: Olorunrinu Tasks Parents, Government on Grooming Mentally Fit Future Leaders

A former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly who represented Amuwo Odofin constituency 1 Honourable Dipo Olorunrinu (2015-2019) has counseled the Nigerian Child to remain focused and hold on to good virtues in their formative years, in order to become future leaders.

Speaking at the tenth-year children’s day celebration organized by the lawmaker, Olorunrinu maintained that if parents bond well with their wards it helps to groom secured future for them.

He added that parents should not leave the responsibility to their teachers alone.

The yearly programme which coincidentally collides with this year’s Moslems Sallah festival, could not debar children from within Amuwo Odofin and beyond to converge on the popular FHA field situated on 23 Road Festac Town, to enjoy the funfilled event, featuring bouncing castles, dancing competition, lots of gifts, snacks, drinks and more for the children and all present.

“Kids inspires me alot and I put up this platform to ensure that children see themselves as future leaders, it is a drive for our nation to have the required enthusiasm for a better future, that Nigeria is a great country with great leaders.

“This gives me personal joy and as leaders in the community that sees ourselves as stakeholders to make this kids see themselves as future leaders who will make it work, to continue from where we stop.

“The platform is for us to put them in check and also inspire them that they can be whom they want to be, some want to be Doctors, Teachers, Nurses, Politicians. This is a platform to celebrate who they are.

“We have people that come from outside Amuwo Odofin. As at the last count we are having almost 600 children here all because of the Sallah celebration it used to be massive we do have more than 2000 children, more children are still trouping in as you can see.

“Today is to ensure that the children stay focused, positive in whatever they want to achieve, regardless of the challenges in their homes, community we can’t rule out challenges in life, despite that when you say you are a leader, a leader sets example, we are here to tell them that they need to stay focused to attain leadership.

“I however, want to encourage parent to create a bond with their kids to ensure they are secured academically, socially, morally, try to have time for them don’t just leave the responsibility to the teachers in schools.

“The government are trying their best creating regulatory platforms for children’s rights protection, it is time for us to come to terms with the importance of childhood, also I want to counsel the youths to eschew substance abuse, it is not sustainable, it is not good for your health and it ruins, wrecks and sets you back from attaining your future goals.”

Other community leaders who graced the occasion; Mr Ayodele Olusegun the former All Progressives Congress Amuwo Odofin LGA Chairman and now Director General of Moses Olanrewaju campaign organization, Mr. Adewunmi Ogunsina former councillor of Amuwo Odofin ward K, Oloruntosin Ayannubi a politician who resides on 22 Road all took turns to commend the former lawmaker for his consistency and communal bond even long after leaving public office .

They opined that parents and government should further enable the children to be the best in all the do.

One of the winners in the children dancing competition Godwin Ishaya elated about the funfilled event profoundly prayed for more blessing for the former lawmaker, citing the fact that the experience was quite encouraging.
