Mallam Halilu Pai, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Plateau, has urged the electorate to register in the ongoing Continuous Voters  Registration (CVR) exercise.

In an interview with the Newsmen on Monday, in Jos, Pai said that the exercise was an opportunity for those who had turned 18 years and those who did not register in previous exercises to do so.

The REC urged the people to come out en mass and register because they cannot vote or be voted for unless they were fully registered for the elections.
“This registration is strictly for the 2023 elections, therefore, we call on all and sundry to please come and register so that they would be able to exercise their franchise when the time comes.
“There is even another opportunity, the exercise is not only through direct capturing, but there is also an ongoing online registration.
“You can see that we have been trying to sensitize and educate people in very many ways. The youths, the people living with disability, women, the elderly, everybody that has not registered should come out and register,” he said.
Pai added that there were also opportunities for those who lost their cards or who want to transfer their voter’s card from one location to another or want to correct their names or other things.
The REC assured the people that the commission is fully prepared for the exercise, which commenced on June 28 and would last until the third quarter of 2022.
“We have two centres here at INEC head office in Jos and we have centres in each of the 17 local government areas of the state.
“At a later time, we may be going round to the registration areas, but for now the centres are here in the state office and in each of the 17 local governments.
“We are prepared, the materials are here, the machines have been given to us and we have distributed them to the various centres,” he added.
