Driver transports 230 parcels of cannabis from Lagos to Katsina, caught along Daura road
Saifullahi Lawal drove 230 parcels of Indian hemp from Lagos to Katsina without any glitch. He had done that twice before.
But he ran into problem between Katsina and Daura on Wednesday when the Nigeria Customs Service arrested him.
Acting Controller of the NCS in Katsina, Mr Dalha Wada-Chedi, disclosed this on Wednesday while handing over the suspect and the exhibit to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Mr Wada-Chedi, represented by the Deputy Controller (DC), Administration of the command, Baffa Dambam, said the suspect was arrested with the exhibit around Shargalle town in Mashi Local Government Area.
But Lawal admitted it was his third time of conveying such an exhibit from Lagos to Katsina without knowing that it was Indian hemp.
The traffic and illegal consumption of marijuana has become a major headache for the NDLEA, especially as Ondo Gov Rotimi Akerele goes big on cannabis economy.
But the House of Reps have insisted nothing will push them to supporting any legislation on liberalizing weed.
