Edo Assembly hires generator for plenary session
From OSEMWENGIE BEN OGBEMUDIA, Benin City
Edo State House of Assembly on Monday relied on the services of rented generator for electricity supply to the hallowed chamber to enable the lawmakers hold plenary session.
The lingering electricity crisis at the House, it was learnt, degenerated following alleged shabby job carried out on the faulty generating power plant at the Assembly by one of the
House members who made a bid and won the contract for the repair of the generator at the sum of N9 million
Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Mrs. Elizabeth Ativie, was said to have headed the House committee where members made bid for the repair of the power plant.
The Speaker, Rt Hon. Justin Okonoboh, had amidst alleged plot to unseat him, penultimate week, postponed plenary to enable the House carry out maintenance work at the hallow chamber, including the repair of the generating power plant.
”Postponement is very convenient for us. There was no impeachment. The generator was malfunctioning and I came on Monday morning to inspect some of these work needed to be done so as to avoid embarrassment during plenary sitting,” he said.
