The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has abolished the Ministry of Niger Delta and the Ministry of Sports Development as part of a major government restructuring.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, announced the changes on Wednesday following a council meeting presided over by the president at the State House in Abuja.
According to Onanuga, the National Sports Commission (NSC) will now assume the responsibilities previously handled by the Ministry of Sports Development.
Additionally, a newly established Ministry of Regional Development will oversee all regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), North West Development Commission (NWDC), South West Development Commission (SWDC), and North East Development Commission (NEDC).

This move is part of the administration’s effort to streamline government operations and improve efficiency. The restructuring also includes the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.
Before the FEC meeting, President Tinubu swore in Abdullahi Bello as the new chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
Bello is tasked with overseeing the bureau’s operations, ensuring ethical standards, and combating corruption in line with Nigeria’s legal framework.
Speaking to reporters, Bello expressed confidence in Nigeria’s existing anti-corruption systems and vowed to focus on delivering the bureau’s mandate to promote integrity and prevent corruption across all levels of government.
