FG declares May 27, 28 public holidays for Eid ul Adha celebration
The Federal Government has announced Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid ul Adha celebration across Nigeria.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, as part of official arrangements to commemorate the Islamic festival observed by millions of Muslims nationwide and across the world.
In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Federal Government said the holiday declaration reflects its “profound respect for the faith and spiritual heritage” of Nigerian Muslims as they join the global Islamic community in observing the sacred occasion.
The Minister conveyed the warm felicitations of the Federal Government to Muslim faithful in Nigeria and in the diaspora, noting the spiritual importance of Eid ul Adha, which is rooted in the values of sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for humanity.
“Eid ul Adha is a festival of deep spiritual significance, grounded in the values of sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for one’s fellow man,” the statement read.
The government further urged Nigerians of all faiths to use the festive period for prayer, reflection, and renewed commitment to national unity, peace, and development.
It also called for prayers for divine guidance as the country continues efforts to strengthen security, stability, and prosperity for all citizens.
The statement concluded with a message of goodwill, wishing Muslim faithful a peaceful, blessed, and joyous Eid celebration, while emphasizing the importance of brotherhood and shared humanity across the nation.
