FG launches digital housing fraud reporting portal to curb real estate scams

The Federal Government has unveiled a digital Housing Fraud Reporting Portal to empower Nigerians to report fraudulent practices in housing estates, submit evidence, and track the progress of their cases.

The initiative, announced on Tuesday by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (FMHUD), is aimed at curbing rising cases of fraud in the real estate sector and restoring public confidence in housing transactions.

, the portal provides a user-friendly platform for citizens to file complaints, which will be jointly reviewed by the Ministry and key stakeholders, including professional bodies, law enforcement agencies, and the judiciary. The government emphasized that perpetrators of real estate fraud will face strict legal consequences.

At the launch event, technical consultants from Freestone Investments Limited and Prunedge Development Technologies Limited demonstrated the platform’s features.

In addition, the Ministry introduced the Contract Performance and Compliance Project Monitoring System (CPCPMS)—a tool designed to strengthen oversight of housing projects. The CPCPMS allows for real-time project monitoring, assessment of contractor performance, and serves as a central repository for project documents, payment certificates, and Bills of Quantities.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, said the platforms are in line with the 2012 National Housing Policy, which advocates stricter regulation of estate developers and protection against fraudulent practices.

“For Nigeria’s housing sector to grow sustainably, we need an efficient administrative, legal, and regulatory framework that ensures proper registration and monitoring of professionals and developers,” Dangiwa stated.

Also speaking, Dr. Marcus Amiolemen, Deputy Director and Head of the Ministry’s ICT Department, revealed that the fraud portal was developed in partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ensure effective case tracking.

He described the twin initiatives as clear evidence of the Ministry’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and improved service delivery.

The launch of these platforms represents a major step toward promoting trust, accountability, and citizen protection in Nigeria’s real estate sector.
