Fubara cites resource control as root of Rivers State crisis
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has pointed to a struggle over control of state resources as the main driver behind the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.
Speaking at the 18th anniversary celebration of Omega Power Ministries (OPM) and the 51st birthday of the church’s founder, Chibuzor Chinyere, in Mbodo, Aluu, near Port Harcourt, Fubara addressed the political tension lingering between him and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike over influence within the state.

Despite an eight-point resolution reached in December 2023 by key political stakeholders, the conflict has shown no signs of abating.
Fubara reassured Rivers residents that his administration is committed to using state resources for the benefit of all, saying, “Rivers state resources belong to you, and we will make sure that the resources are applied judiciously for the betterment of the state.”
The governor also appealed for continued prayers from the church, emphasizing the need for spiritual support to stay focused and dedicated to serving the public interest.
“What you owe us is just one thing: continue to pray for us. Let us not lose focus because we know the devil is always at war to derail people in governance,” he added.
