The Gombe State Government announced on Friday a N10,000 pay increase for all employees to offset the impact of the removal of fuel subsidies.

Malam Manassah Jatau, the Deputy Governor of Gombe, announced this in a meeting with the press in the state.

According to him, National Daily Newspaper gathered that the increment was part of the government’s efforts to mitigate the economic impact of the subsidy reduction on workers.

He stated that since the COVID-19 outbreak, Governor Inuwa Yahaya has been concerned about the wellbeing of civil personnel and inhabitants of the state.

Since the removal of the fuel subsidy, palliatives have been delivered to 30,000 recipients across the state.

The N10,000 is for both state and local government employees in the state, and it would go into effect in August.

As a result, we decided to provide interventions through monthly payments of N10,000 beginning in August 2023.

When asked how long the increment would last, he stated that N10,000 has no time restriction for the time being.

The deputy governor praised the contributions of state employees, identifying them as the administration’s engine room and the implementation of policies.

“We are ready to ensure an atmosphere that is conducive for them to contribute their own part to the development of the state and the nation.

Jatau advised the workers to reciprocate by obeying the law and supporting the government’s policies and projects, while imploring other residents who had yet to benefit from the palliatives to be patient.

“I call on all residents of the state, especially those who are yet to benefit from the palliatives, to be patient, as we shall continue to consider bringing more interventions in the near future within available resources.” He added.
