Gov Ganduje promises to sign death sentence on Proprietor Tanko for kidnap, killing of Hanifa

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has promised to sign the death sentence on the proprietor of Nobel Kids Academy and North West Preparatory School, Abdulmalik Tanko, by the Kano State High without delay for kidnap and killing of Hanifa Abubakar, a five-year-old pupil. The governor had on the commencement of the prosecution of the proprietor of the school by the state government, assured that he would sign the death sentence without further delay if pronounced by the court, which the State High Court eventually pronounced in its judgement on Thursday.

The presiding judge, of the Kano State High Court, Justice Usman Na’abba, on Thursday sentenced Abdulmalik Tanko, proprietor of Nobel Kids Academy and North West Preparatory School, to death for kidnapping and killing of Hanifa Abubakar in December 2021. The Judgesentenced Tanko also to five years imprisonment on the four-count charges against him.

Hanifa, a pupil of Noble Kids Comprehensive College in Kwanar ‘Yan Gana, Tudun Murtala Quarters, Nassarawa Local Government Area, Kano State, was abducted by Tanko who demanded and received N5 million ransom from her parents, yet, killed Hanifa.

Kano State government commenced the prosecution of Tanko after he was arrested, together two other persons, including his wife, at the State High Court. The wife was, however, found not guilty and was set free by the court.

The culprit, however, has opportunities to go on appeal to upturn or mitigate the judgment.
