The Alternative Progressives Circle (APC), a prominent pressure group in Lagos, celebrated Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary by donating food items to St. Monica’s Orphanage Home in the Iju Ishaga area of Lagos.

The donation, which included cartons of Indomie noodles and bags of rice, was made on behalf of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, in line with his ongoing humanitarian efforts to support vulnerable groups, especially orphans.

Speaking during the event on Tuesday, October 1st, 2024, the group’s leader, Comrade Abiodun Yakub Adam, emphasized Dr. Hamzat’s commitment to welfare initiatives targeting Nigeria’s most vulnerable citizens.

“We have decided to support St. Monica’s Orphanage as part of the Nigeria’s Independence celebration to ensure the proper upbringing of vulnerable Nigerian children, helping them grow into responsible citizens,” Adam stated.

Comrade Adam further highlighted Dr. Hamzat’s philanthropic values, noting that despite his privileged background, the Deputy Governor is known for his dedication to humanitarian causes, often keeping his charitable work away from media attention.

“He doesn’t turn away from those in need. His love for humanity and his generosity are unmatched,” Adam said.

He assured that this donation would not be a one-time event, promising continued support to the orphanage through a sustained partnership. “We will regularly assess their needs and provide assistance whenever required,” he added.

Sister Therese Marie, the Sister-in-Charge of St. Monica’s Orphanage, which is under the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, expressed her gratitude for the donation, noting how important such support is in caring for the children.

She called on more individuals and organizations to follow the APC’s example, stressing that the orphanage relies heavily on public donations to meet its needs.

“This kind gesture will go a long way in helping us take better care of the children. We urge residents to contribute to causes that uplift the less privileged in our society, making the world a better place,” Sister Marie said.

The event showcased the Lagos APC’s ongoing dedication to improving the lives of vulnerable groups, as well as their strong relationship with Dr. Hamzat, who has been a key player in the state’s governance and social welfare programs for the past five years.
