Guardiola two games away from breaking own record

The Manchester City of Pep Guardiola does not stop breaking records, and the latest 4-0 win over Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium could herald another, as he sets his eyes on the record set by his own Bayern Munich team.

City are now halfway through the season and remain unbeaten, with only Everton having taken points off them in the second game of the season.

On Boxing Day, the Citizens will face Newcastle United and could go to just one game away from equalling the record number of consecutive wins in one of Europe’s big five leagues.

That record belongs to Guardiola himself, having set a winning streak of 19 back-to-back games during his spell at Bayern Munich in 2013/14.

The Sky Blues are top of the Premier League table with a 13-point lead over their neighbours, Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United, and with 16 points more than reigning champions Chelsea.

Such incredible form has already seen them equal Roberto Mancini’s 17 consecutive wins with Inter in 2006/07.

A win over Newcastle means that, on New Year’s Eve, Crystal Palace would be the only side standing in their way of beating that record and bringing Bayern’s best into their crosshairs.
