Gunmen kill two police officers in attack on Imo police station
Gunmen in an invasion of the Police Divisional Headquarters at Isu, Isu Local Government Area, Imo State, killed two police officers.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Police Command, Michael Abattam, in a statement narrated that the gunmen drove in two Toyota Sienna Buses, a Toyota Camry Car and several motorcycles, and invaded the police station from the rear axis, explaining that the station has no perimeter fence.
The PPRO said that the gunmen were shooting sporadically, throwing petrol bombs and Improvised Explosive Devices that razed the station. He added that the police officer at the division immediately confronted the gunmen in a gun battle, compelling the attackers to flee in different directions, sustaining various degrees of gunshot injuries.
According to the PPRO, “however, the fire and Improvised Explosives Devices affected some vehicles and part of the building of the division, and unfortunately, two police officers paid the supreme prize, while one sustained minor bullet injury on his head.”
The Commissioner of Police of the Imo Command, Rabiu Hussaini, was said to have condoled the families of the officers who lost their lives, assuring that the gunmen would be brought to book.
