John Ternus becomes Apple CEO, inherits trillion-dollar technology empire
By Princess Ose Aluede
John Ternus has officially assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer of Apple, succeeding Tim Cook and beginning a new era for one of the world’s most valuable and influential technology companies.
Ternus takes charge after Cook’s 15-year tenure, during which Apple expanded dramatically, with its market value rising from approximately $347 billion when Cook became CEO in 2011 to about $4.6 trillion by the end of his tenure.
His appointment also places him in the long shadow of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, whose vision and leadership helped establish the company’s distinctive identity.

The immediate question facing Ternus is whether he can sustain Apple’s extraordinary growth while preserving the product-focused culture and ecosystem that have made the company a global technology powerhouse.
25 Years of Apple Experience
Unlike many corporate executives who enter the CEO role from outside the organisation, Ternus brings 25 years of experience within Apple.

He joined the company in 2001 and steadily rose through its hardware engineering ranks before becoming senior vice president of Hardware Engineering.
During his career, Ternus has been involved in the development of several of Apple’s most important products, including the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and AirPods.
He also played a role in Apple’s transition to its own silicon technology, a move that has given the company greater control over the chips powering its devices and strengthened the integration between Apple’s hardware and software.
His extensive engineering background makes Ternus an unusual choice for the top job at a company increasingly defined by the intersection of hardware, software and emerging technologies.
AI Creates Immediate Test
Ternus assumes leadership at a critical moment for Apple.
The rapid development of artificial intelligence is reshaping the technology industry, while competitors are investing aggressively in AI-powered products and services.
Apple will be under pressure to demonstrate that it can remain at the forefront of the next technological revolution while protecting the enormous business built around the iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch and its growing services ecosystem.
Ternus will therefore face the difficult task of maintaining Apple’s existing strengths while identifying the products and technologies capable of driving its next phase of growth.
Cook Backs His Successor
Cook has expressed confidence in Ternus, describing him as having an “engineer’s mind and an innovator’s soul.”
That endorsement comes with enormous expectations.
Ternus now inherits not only Apple’s vast global customer base and ecosystem but also the responsibility of guiding the company through an increasingly competitive technology landscape.
For 25 years, Ternus helped Apple engineer some of its most successful products.
Now, the engineer moves from helping build Apple’s future to deciding what that future will look like.
The world is watching to see whether John Ternus can turn Apple’s next chapter into another era of technological and commercial success.
