Karibi-George secures top 40 spot as Nigeria claims Miss World Africa top model title

Nigeria’s representative at the 73rd Miss World Festival, Tamunosoye Karibi-George, has secured a place in the competition’s Top 40 after winning the Africa Top Model title in Vietnam.

Karibi-George emerged victorious on Thursday at the Vietnam Beauty Fashion Fest XVII, themed “Soul of Heritage”, finishing ahead of contestants representing Equatorial Guinea, Botswana, Kenya and South Africa.

Her victory gives Nigeria an automatic place in the Top 40 quarter-finals, providing Karibi-George with a direct route into the next stage of the competition as she continues her campaign for the Miss World crown.

The Top Model challenge is one of the major fast-track events at Miss World, giving contestants an opportunity to demonstrate their confidence, runway presence and ability to present themselves on an international fashion stage.

Karibi-George was among the four continental winners announced from the challenge. Nigeria emerged as the African winner, while the Dominican Republic, France and Vietnam secured the titles for the Americas and Caribbean, Europe, and Asia and Oceania respectively.

The four continental winners automatically earned places in the Top 40, with the eventual overall Top Model winner set to receive an additional advantage, a direct place in the Top 20.

For Karibi-George, the latest achievement adds another significant milestone to an already impressive Miss World campaign. The 26-year-old was crowned Miss World Nigeria on June 6 after emerging from a field of 20 finalists at the national competition in Lagos.

The Port Harcourt-born representative has also previously featured among the African finalists in the Head-to-Head Challenge, further establishing herself as one of Nigeria’s strongest contenders in this year’s competition.

Her Top Model victory now puts her among the contestants guaranteed a place in the quarter-finals, while the remaining Top 40 positions will be determined through other Miss World challenge events, including People’s Choice, Beauty With a Purpose, Head-to-Head and Multimedia.

With the competition entering its decisive stages, attention will now turn to whether Karibi-George can convert her continental success into another major breakthrough and secure a place among the final contestants competing for the Miss World crown.

For Nigeria, her latest achievement represents another opportunity to make a strong impression on the global pageant stage.
