Kwara Govt boosts security at Obbo Aiyegunle over incessant kidnapping
The Kwara Government has deployed more security architecture at Obbo Aiyegunle axis to curb incessakidnapping and other acts of criminalities.
The state government appealed to the people of the area to be calm in the wake of a fresh abduction and death of two persons.
This is contained in a statement issued on Monday in Ilorin by the Commissioner of Communications, Mr Bode Towoju.
It said a security team comprising police, secret service and the military has been despatched to support the existing security architecture in the area.
The government commiserated with the families of the two victims who lost their lives, and pledged to take every step to safely return those abducted to their loved ones.
The government added that the police and DSS contingents were already on ground while the military will join the operation to rescue the victims and “ensure that appropriate actions are taken against the perpetrators”.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that gunmen on Saturday attacked an 18-seater bus leading to the death of two persons in the area.
Police spokesman in the state, SP Ajayi Okasanmi, said in a statement that the assailants also abducted several occupants of the vehicle.
NAN also recalls that gunmen had months ago abducted some members of the All Progressives Congress returning home from Ilorin where they went for the inauguration of the party’s state executive.
One of those abducted died during a rescue operation by security agencies.
