Lagos Police foil kidnap attempt, neutralise four suspects in gun battle

The Lagos State Police Command says its operatives have foiled a kidnap attempt and neutralised four suspected kidnappers during an armed encounter in the Ejigbo area of the state.

The Commissioner of Police disclosed on Tuesday that the suspects were part of a gang allegedly targeting high-profile individuals, including wealthy residents, when they were intercepted by tactical teams acting on credible intelligence.

According to the police account, operatives engaged the suspects in a gun battle after trailing them to their hideout, resulting in the death of four of the alleged kidnappers. No police personnel or civilians were reported killed during the operation.

The Command said the swift response was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks operating within Lagos and to prevent attacks on residents, particularly in high-value neighbourhoods.

Items reportedly recovered from the scene include weapons and other operational materials believed to have been used by the gang, though full details of the recovery are yet to be officially released.

The police added that investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the suspected syndicate and to prevent further planned attacks.

Security agencies have in recent months intensified operations against kidnapping gangs across Lagos and neighbouring states amid rising concerns over targeted abductions and violent crime.
