More 27 casualties recorded in Illela killings, raising death figure to 39
More 27 dead bodies have been found after the massacre of people in three communities in Illela Local Government Area, Sokoto State, by bandits between Sunday and Tuesday. The figures raised the death recorded in the onslaught as of Tuesday to 39.
The bandits had stormed three communities in Illela Local Government Area, Sokoto State, killing residents in cold blood in the operations that took place at different times from Sunday night to Tuesday morning.
As the figure of deaths rose to 39 in the three communities, six bandits were said to be killed in the confrontation.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State had disclosed that 12 persons were killed in Illela Local Government Area and three persons in Goronyo Local Government, making a total of 15.
However, residents revealed that the figure of persons killed by the bandits in Illela has risen to 39.
Many other residents were declared missing. The volunteered vigilante group known as Yan Sakai, was said to have killed six of the bandits.
It was highlighted that 15 persons were killed in Masasa, 12 in Kalmalo and 6 in Munwadata and 6 in Rumji communities in Illela Local Government Area.
