NDC Chieftain tells Atiku to drop presidential ambition over son’s support for Tinubu
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Theo Abu Agada, has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to abandon his 2027 presidential ambition following his son, Abba Abubakar’s decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Agada described the development as embarrassing for Atiku, who is the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a major contender in the 2027 presidential election.
Abba recently unveiled a mobilisation strategy across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones in support of Tinubu’s re-election.
The founder and chairman of the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation (HBTO), a political mobilisation and support platform, had earlier defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He also disclosed plans to mobilise a two-million-man march across the country in support of Tinubu’s second-term bid.
Reacting to the development, Agada said the decision by Atiku’s son to support Tinubu had created an unfavourable political impression for the former vice president.
In a post on X, the NDC chieftain wrote: “A very bad optics. AA should give up his ambition at this point.”
Atiku, however, remains a prominent opposition figure positioning himself for the 2027 presidential election.
The former vice president has consistently criticised the Tinubu administration’s economic policies, accusing the government of worsening hardship and hunger across the country.
The latest development is expected to generate further political debate as parties and prominent figures intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
