New Zealand, Australia usher in New Year, 2022, with fireworks
The year 2022 has begun in earnest in certain parts of the world as of Friday. At the Nigerian time of 12.00noon, Friday, December 2021, New Zealand and Australia are already into Saturday, January 1, 2022, marking the New Year with fireworks despite the COVID-19 phobia in several counties of the world.
From Sydney to Auckland, Wellington, people are already celebrating the New Year 2022 in high spirit.
Sydney, the largest city in Australia, went wild with a fireworks carnival, lighting up the city at 12.00 midnight to usher in the New Year.
The Australian government had explained that the country decided to ignore the “Covid-zero” because of the vaccination rates, as well as the increasing evidence that Omicron is not a deadly infection.
Many gathered in tens of thousands in the city of Sydney for the firework carnival with chants of Happy New Year.
Meanwhile, Nigeria and other countries in the meridian are still counting down to 12 midnight to usher in the New Year.
Several other countries have restricted mass gathering and fireworks because of the Omicron scare.
