NIMC warns against unauthorized NIN modifications, urges Nigerians to use official portal
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued a strong warning to Nigerians regarding the modification of their National Identification Number (NIN) data, emphasizing that all updates must be carried out exclusively through the official NIMC self-service portal: selfservice modification.nimc.gov.ng.
In a statement released by the Commission, NIMC stressed the importance of ensuring the security and integrity of NIN data, cautioning citizens against using unauthorized websites or third-party services for modifications.
The Commission warned that attempting to alter personal information on unofficial platforms could expose individuals to identity theft and other forms of cyber fraud.

“To safeguard the security of your NIN data, all modifications should only be done through the official NIMC self-service portal. Using unauthorized websites may compromise your personal details and put you at risk of identity theft,” the statement read.
NIMC further reassured Nigerians that the self-service portal provides a secure and convenient way to update personal information from anywhere, at any time.
The Commission urged the public to remain vigilant and only use approved channels for any NIN-related transactions.
For more information and secure NIN modifications, Nigerians are advised to visit the official NIMC portal.
