NiMet warns of dust haze, thunderstorms, advises caution across Nigeria
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted a mix of moderate dust and sunny conditions across the country from Monday to Wednesday.
This weather outlook, released in Abuja on Sunday, provides details on expected conditions in different regions and offers safety recommendations for residents and relevant sectors.
The northern region is predicted to experience moderate dust with localised visibility reductions to 1,000 meters or less throughout the day. The North Central region will face slight dust with visibilities ranging from 2 to 5 kilometers.
In the southern region, cloud patches and intervals of sunshine will dominate the morning, with thunderstorms accompanied by slight rains expected over Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa during the afternoon and evening.
Moderate dust will persist in the northern region with visibilities of 1,000 meters or less. The North Central region is set to experience slight dust with visibilities between 2 and 5 kilometers.
Southern areas will see sunny skies with cloud patches in the morning, transitioning to thunderstorms and light rainfall later in the day over states including Rivers, Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom.
The northern region will have slight dust with visibility expected between 2 and 5 kilometers throughout the day.

The North Central region will continue with similar conditions. In the southern region, the morning will feature sunny skies with patches of clouds, followed by afternoon and evening thunderstorms with light rain affecting Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom.
NiMet has issued critical warnings for public health and safety due to the weather conditions:
Dust particles in suspension may pose risks, particularly for individuals with respiratory conditions such as asthma. People are advised to take precautions and reduce exposure.
Strong Winds: Areas predicted to experience thunderstorms may encounter strong, gusty winds ahead of the rains. Residents should secure loose items and follow safety advisories.
NiMet advises airline operators to obtain specific weather updates for airports to ensure effective flight planning.
