Ortom laments killings in Benue
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State on Saturday lamented the killing of 134 residents of the state by suspected herdsmen in the week in three local governments which include Otukpo, Apa and Guma LGAs.
Governor Ortom, visiting Mgbam, Nyiev council ward, Guma Local Government Area, on Saturday, where 36 persons were identified to be killed, including those in internally displaced person camps (IDP) camps, by suspected herdsmen on Friday night, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to deploy more troops to the state.
Ortom decried that IDP camps and farming communities have become soft targets for suspected herdsmen in Benue.
Gunmen, suspected to be herdsmen had on Monday killed 47 residents of Ikobi community in Apa Local Government Area, including the traditional ruler. About 51 persons were identified to be killed in Umogidi, Otukpo Local Government Area on Wednesday.
