Oyo Police arrest suspected burglar over four Ibadan home break-ins
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspected burglar, Nasiru Abiodun, over alleged break-ins at four residential apartments in Ibadan, with stolen property valued at ₦16.22 million.
The suspect was arrested on October 31, 2026, at about 9:45 a.m. by operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), following a report from residents of Oyewole Zone 2, Ile-Igbon, in the Ejiooku/Iyana Offa area of the city.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement, saying the operatives found Abiodun at a residential apartment with a sack containing house cables and other valuables estimated at ₦3 million.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly admitted during interrogation to breaking into four residential apartments in the area and stealing house cables, mobile phones, motorcycle batteries and other household items.
The command put the total estimated value of property stolen in the four incidents at ₦16.22 million, adding that some of the items had been recovered.
Police operatives subsequently visited the identified locations as part of efforts to establish the circumstances of the incidents and advance the investigation.
The command said efforts were ongoing to recover the remaining stolen property and arrest individuals suspected of receiving the items.
It also urged residents of Ejiooku/Iyana Offa, Ile-Igbon and neighbouring communities whose homes might have been burgled recently to report the incidents to the nearest police station or the Maku Base of the VCRU.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling crime through intelligence-led operations and collaboration with residents.
