Passengers survive as AKTC driver loses control, bus plunges into bush
Several passengers reportedly escaped death on Tuesday after a bus operated by the Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC) veered off the road and crashed into the bush following what witnesses described as reckless driving.
The incident reportedly occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle while carrying passengers, forcing the bus off the road and into the bush.
Although details of the incident, including the exact location and number of passengers involved, were not immediately available, reports indicated that no fatality had been recorded at the time of filing this report.

The incident has renewed concerns over the safety of passengers travelling with commercial transport operators and the need for transport companies to ensure that only properly trained and professionally qualified drivers are entrusted with passenger vehicles.
Passengers and members of the public have also called on AKTC management to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and take appropriate measures to prevent a recurrence.
The concerns centre particularly on driver conduct, speed management and compliance with road safety regulations, given the potentially severe consequences of losing control of a passenger vehicle.
The incident also highlights the responsibility of transport operators to prioritise passenger safety through regular driver training, supervision, vehicle maintenance and strict enforcement of operational safety standards.
AKTC has yet to issue an official statement on the incident or clarify the circumstances that led to the bus leaving the road.
