Nigeria Police declare two men wanted for alleged violation of same-sex marriage prohibition law
The Nigeria Police Force has officially declared two individuals — Olabode Bello and Michael Chigozie — wanted for allegedly violating the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2013, a federal law that prescribes a penalty of up to 14 years imprisonment for convicted offenders.
According to a statement issued by the police, the suspects were initially arrested on December 12, 2024, in Lagos State and were subsequently granted bail on January 15, 2025.
The bail came with strict conditions, including a mandatory requirement for weekly reporting to law enforcement authorities, pending their formal arraignment.

However, the police now report that both Bello and Chigozie have violated their bail terms and fled Lagos State. Multiple attempts by security operatives to re-arrest and prosecute the duo have reportedly failed.
Recent intelligence suggests the suspects were last seen in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
According to the force PPRO, Olabode Bello, described as being in his early 30s, of medium build, and of Yoruba descent, while Michael Chigozie is believed to be in his late 20s, of slim build, and of Igbo descent.
The Nigeria Police Force is urging the general public to assist in locating the suspects.
Anyone with credible information regarding their whereabouts is advised to report to the nearest police station or call the police emergency hotline. The authorities assure that all information provided will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
This development comes amid growing national debate over the enforcement of the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, which continues to attract both local and international attention.
