Petit: Arsenal’s defense is a disgrace
Arsenal had to fight to win in Cardiff at the 4th day of Premier League (2-3). If Emmanuel Petit applauds the effectiveness of the Aubameyang-Lacazette pair, the RMC Sport consultant takes a stern look at the defensive worries of the Gunners. “A problem that dates for ages” in his eyes.
Second place win and first away win for Arsenal in the Premier League. On Sunday, on the Cardiff pitch, Unai Emery’s players went with difficulty (2-3). Finally tenured together, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette each scored once. The Frenchman also scored the goal of the victory in the 81st minute.
“A recurring problem that has been around for ages and has never been rectified”
“This duet can score between 40 and 50 goals in the league if they are tenured,” said Emmanuel Petit, consultant RMC Sport. But the former Gunner noted the defensive feverishness of the Londoners, who gave up twice against the promoted and conceded eight goals in four days.
“They have a defense that is still far from the level to compete with the top 4. We have seen it again on this game.It is a recurring problem that dates back decades to Arsenal and has never has been rectified, neither by Unai Emery, nor by Arsene Wenger, nor by the players in the field, “analyzes Manu Petit. His conclusion? “Even with Aubameyang and Lacazette, Arsenal will not be on the podium if the defensive problems are not settled.”
