Plane overruns runway, slides into nearby lake in France
A Boeing 737 of the West Atlantic cargo carrier on Saturday overrun the runway in France and ended finding part of the aircraft at the bank of a nearby lake and other parts on land. The accident compelled the French authorities to shut down the airport in southern Montpellier for an indefinite period.
French authorities said that the three crew on board the Boeing 737 of the West Atlantic cargo carrier escaped the accident unhurt in the early hours of Saturday.
An airport staff had said: “We will not reopen the airport as long as the aircraft is on the runway and the investigation is not finished.
“After the removal of the aircraft, the runway will also be carefully checked.”
The airline website indicated that flights were either cancelled or diverted to Marseille.
The airline had scheduled 21commercial flights at the airport on Saturday.
