Police arrest former Imo Governor Rochas Okorocha over alleged forgery, impersonation
Former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
Okorocha was reportedly arrested on Monday night, October 12, following his alleged failure to honour previous police invitations in connection with an ongoing investigation.
The Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu, confirmed the development to Channels Television on Tuesday, October 13.
According to the police spokesperson, the former governor was released on bail after undergoing approximately one hour of interrogation.
He was subsequently directed to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning as investigations into the allegations continue.
Police sources disclosed that Okorocha was initially invited for questioning on September 2, but the appointment was rescheduled to September 8 following a request by his lawyers.
However, the former governor allegedly failed to honour the rescheduled invitation, a development that reportedly prompted the police to take further action.
The police have yet to provide detailed information about the alleged offences or disclose the specific circumstances surrounding the accusations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
Okorocha, who governed Imo State from 2011 to 2019, is a former senator who represented Imo West Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
The latest development comes as police investigations into the allegations remain ongoing.
As of the time of filing this report, no further details had been officially released regarding the evidence supporting the allegations or the next steps in the investigation.
