Police deploy tactical team to UNIABUJA after bandits kidnapped of 2 Professors, 1 lecturer, 3 others at Senior Staff Quarters
The Nigeria Police in the federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, on Tuesday acknowledged the invasion of the University of Abuja Senior Staff Quarters, Gwagwalada, the kidnap of six persons by bandits who fled into the forest. The FCT Police Command, accordingly, deployed tactical teams to all facilities of the University if Abuja across the FCT.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, in a statement confirming incident, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Babaji Sunday, has deployed additional tactical and conventional policing resources to the University of Abuja, UNIABUJA, main and satellite campuses, including the staff quarters and other affiliate formations of the university, to fortify security, improve public safety and protect citizens in and around the university community.
Adeh narrated that the FCT CP gave the order following report that some yet to be identified armed criminals invaded the UNIABUJA Staff Quarters located at the Giri area of the FCT in the early hours of Tuesday.
The PPRO said that the CP revealed that a combined team of the Police and personnel of the Nigerian Army 176 Guards Battalion has been swiftly mobilized to the area to protect the citizens.
The CP assured residents of the university community that the perpetrators will be arrested and brought to book. He maintained that security forces are already working with the locals in the area toward rescuing the victims.
The FCT Police Command, according to the PPRO, pledged its undeterred resolve to ensure that lives and property of residents within the FCT are protected; appealing to residents to report all suspicious movements within their environment to relevant authorities.
